I was introduced to Lisa Uranga, the face of Dirt Side Sisters, by a mutual friend. I had her on my podcast, Crushing It with Your Tribe, and she convinced me ANYONE can ride the trails! Dirt Side Sisters is a non-profit organization that educates and teaches women of all ages about bicycle safety, trail etiquette, and mountain bike skills. And when she says of all ages, she means it. There were women of every age, shape, and background. It was awesome!
When I visited DSS in June of 2023, I hadn’t been on any bike in years and never on a mountain bike. I was able to borrow a bike and went through an orientation of the bike. Every one of the staff members were kind and patient. They taught us about the bike, and we rode slowly around the field. Now, that is when I fell and broke my wrist…however don’t let that dissuade you!!! It was rider error for sure, and I fully plan on getting back on the saddle (bike saddle, that is) as soon as I’m healed!
I was worried about fitting in with the women in my session, thinking I wouldn’t be able to find any common ground with anyone, but they welcomed me with open arms. DDS has something for everyone, from the first-time bike rider to the seasoned advanced rider. They even offer a borrow-a-bike option for your session, so all you have to do is show up!
