Whether you’re a seasoned pumpkin enthusiast or just looking for a fun family outing, the DFW region boasts a cornucopia of delightful pumpkin patches that cater to every preference and age group. We’ll take you on a tour of some of the most charming and bountiful pumpkin patches in the DFW area, ensuring you have all the information you need to embark on your own pumpkin-filled adventure. So, grab your flannels and get ready to explore the best places to pick the perfect pumpkin in DFW!

Pumpkin Patch at St. James Episcopal Church in Dallas

Open September 30-October 31, St. James Episcopal Church nurtures a bountiful pumpkin crop for this beloved event in partnership with local Southwest-based farmers. Proceeds from pumpkin sales directly support the Saint James Student Ministries, fostering youth development through local outreach and impactful national and international mission trips.

Hours:
Monday-Thursday: 1pm-7pm
Friday-Saturday: 10am-7pm
Sunday: 11:30am-7pm

St. James Episcopal Church also hosts their annual “Fall Family Fandango” on October 28th, 2023. There is no entry fee for the event, though there will be some delicious food available for purchase and beer for an additional suggested donation. The event boasts live music and dancing, BBQ, and bounce houses.

Hall’s Pumpkin Farm in Grapevine

Located at the corner of Hall-Johnson Rd and Pool Rd in Grapevine, Hall’s Pumpkin Farm & Corn Maze features a two-acre corn maze that is free with paid general admission, daytime ($5) and after-dark ($3) hayrides, and a pumpkin patch! They are a cash-only business, so please come prepared.

Monday-Tuesday CLOSED (except 10/9, 10/30, 10/31)
Wednesday-Thursday: 3pm-8pm
Friday: 3pm-9pm
Saturday: 10am-9pm

Blase Family Farm in Rockwall

Not only do they offer a pumpkin patch in the fall, but they have a pick-your-own blueberry farm, in the summer! In addition to their pumpkin patch, they offer a petting zoo, a hayride which passes the blueberry farm, a hay maze, Spookley the Square Pumpkin Storyboards, and photo opportunities!

Parking is free, and admission price is $10 per person 2 years and older (23 months and under are free!)

Monday-Friday the admission price includes the petting zoo, hayride, hay maze, Spookley storyboards, and a small pumpkin.

Pitchfork Pumpkin Patch is a small family-owned pumpkin patch about 25 minutes east of Dallas, Tx. They offer a wide variety of Pumpkins, Gourds, Dried Corn, Hay & More. They host Family Friendly movie nights on Fridays & Saturdays in October, as well as crafts, such as paint the pumpkin and pumpkin carving, and Pumpkin Smashing! Parking and admission are free!

Shadow Creek Pumpkin Farm in Midlothian

There is so much to do at Shadow Creek Pumpkin Patch! From hay hill slides and giant jump pads to pumpkin games and axe throwing, there’s bound to be something for the whole family. Admission is $17 per person (kids 2 and younger are free), with discounts for seniors (55+), military, and first responders.

Hours:
Saturday: 10am-6pm
Sunday: 1pm-6pm
Special Weekdays (10/6, 10/9, 10/13, 10/16): 10am-3pm

8th Annual Pumpkin Patch Festival in Aubrey

Barrel train rides for the kids, feed the farm animals, pose for photos at rustic photo spots, playgrounds with slides and swings, human hamster wheels, the Half Pint Homestead play area, hay maze, giant tube slide, play some games, practice your cowboy and cowgirl yell with Cowboy Tex, pumpkins for purchase, and more! This is a working farm, so they recommend wearing close-toed shoes.

Should You Build a Deck or Patio?

Adding space outside to enjoy warmer days can create fun and long-lasting memories. However, choosing between installing a deck or a patio can become overwhelming. There are many factors to consider before deciding. First, it is important to understand the key differences between the two. A deck is an elevated structure connected to your home’s first or second floor. It has a railing along the edge for safety and is typically made from wood, composite, or vinyl. Unlike a deck, a patio is built on the ground floor, either attached to the home or as a separate structure. They are comprised of concrete or bricks, as opposed to wood, making them durable and long-lasting. In addition to understanding the difference, you must decide which option best serves your family’s needs. Consider the following six factors before deciding if you should build a deck or patio.

Cost

Generally, patios are less expensive to install than decks because they require fewer materials and construction. Decks, however, need foundational support, which is more labor-intensive. The cost comparison is approximately $5000 for a patio and $20,000 for a deck. Nonetheless, you shouldn’t only consider the expense as a factor. Consider your location, yard type, and prices of various contractors. If you have a leveled property that you feel can be more fully enjoyed on the ground and don’t want to have an unsightly view of a highway, a patio may be a better choice. Also, shop around for the best price if a deck is what you want. Also, consider that you will need extra insurance coverage if the deck or patio is unattached to your home because they would not be included in your homeowner’s insurance policy.

Yard and soil type

If any changes need to be made before you build, your cost could increase. For example, if you have a sloping property, you must have the land leveled to install a patio to avoid cracks. In this case, erecting a deck may be more cost-efficient to eliminate the need to bring heavy machinery to even the ground before construction. For patio construction, sand is better than clay soil since sand drains well and is less likely to cause cracking. Clay soil would have to be treated to make it less likely to expand and contract with changes in moisture.

Goals

What is your purpose for your new outdoor enhancement? If you want your outdoor area to be an extension of your indoor space with an elevated view, a deck would be the better option. A deck is also better if you don’t want guests to track dirt in from the property when they return indoors. Conversely, if you prefer to add landscaping, such as shrubs and flowers, you may want to build a patio instead to attract guests to the ground level. If you are concerned about fire safety, opt for a patio due to its protective concrete.

Maintenance and durability

Both patios and decks require cleaning, but decks will need to be stained every few years to keep the wood fresh unless it is composite decking. For a patio, a quick hose down occasionally will suffice. Decks are susceptible to rot and will last an average of 10 to 15 years. Parts will need to be replaced and repaired to protect against safety hazards. Paved patios, on the other hand, can last about 35 years, give or take the weather patterns, tree roots, and shifting ground. In a humid and buggy climate, opting to build a patio would be the better choice.

Value

Due to its higher price tag and ability to provide appealing views, a deck generally adds more resale value to your home than a patio. Although a patio can enhance your property, a city or ocean view from a deck can add tens of thousands to the resale value.

Patios and decks are desirable open-air spaces for your family to enjoy the outdoors. Although both add to your living area, having either has benefits and drawbacks. You should consider your budget, yard structure, goals, and personal preferences when choosing which to build.

Salty Sow

Ok… the Salty Sow isn’t in Dallas. It is in Austin. However, we all go to Austin once in a while and I just have to share this place! I mean…I went twice in 2 days! 

I was in Austin for a Keller Williams training and conference event, and we had our office dinner here. It was a short Lyft ride from downtown and I arrived a bit early. While I waited with my TX & Beer I pursued the menu and was delighted! There was not one “healthy” thing on that menu. It was all good down-home Southern cooking. Mashed potatoes, deviled eggs, beef shoulder, triple duck fat french fries (they put a fried egg on ‘em)…Lordy!

The service was outstanding with our group all ordering different things at different times. They were even patient when we stayed after everyone left…we didn’t even notice since we were having such a good time.

I went back the next night with my niece. She was happy I agreed to go back. She loves it and there were more things I wanted to try!!

Great food, great drinks, great service! The Salty Sow will be a go-to whenever I venture down to Austin! You can check them out at their website.
