Haunted Shadows Lake Trail in The Colony, TX

It’s sort of a Blair Witch Project style trail walk through the woods and weeds along the shore of Lake Lewisville in The Colony. Your group has to pick your way through the dark, winding, marked trail …and (CUE SCARY MUSIC) to uncover the various creatures that you’ll meet along the way…the Lady of the Lake, a werewolf or two, and the undead in the Lakeside Cemetery.

The trail itself is just over a mile, so don’t let the acreage fool you. Acres of North Texas grasslands and native woods create a truly haunted experience. This is a self-guided but well-marked trail. They do have a PG-rated version, but you need to ask for it, which is great for young visitors.

Creekside Manor in Midlothian, TX

Thrillvania Haunted House Park in Terrell, TX

It is often said that a house cannot be haunted unless it has a history.

And Verdun Manor has quite a history! According to legend, Verdun Manor was the home of a werewolf, Baron Michael Verdun, and his vampire wife, Lady Cassandra. Herein lies the dark and twisted tale that led to the haunting of Verdun Manor and the nearly 50 acres surrounding it.

In 1901, the dark history of Verdun Manor commenced adjacent to an aged plantation cemetery. Baron Michael Verdun, a deranged scientist, and his wife Lady Cassandra D’Arque scripted a terrifying narrative of cruelty and dread. Hidden within the manor, their experiments on abducted victims gave rise to deformed creatures that wandered the estate. Lavish masquerade gatherings incorporated human flesh into the menu, and nocturnal hunts instilled fear in the local populace. Ultimately, an enraged mob descended upon the manor, resulting in a fiery demise for both the abominations and their twisted creators. However, the horrors persisted. A year later, the Carruthers family took up residence, oblivious to the grisly history. On a fateful Halloween evening, Baron Verdun and Lady Cassandra returned, initiating a ruthless bloodbath that left the manor and its environs haunted by the deceased, the undead, and their monstrous offspring. This is the eerie tale of Verdun Manor.
